Study Focuses on Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia from Innovnano

30th January 2017

The Thermal Spray Team of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) conducted an independent study on yttria-stabilized zirconia  (YSZ) from Innovnano. It reported that Innovnano’s 4YSZ produces thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) with a 30% reduction in thermal conductivity when compared to a benchmark TBC. When deposited via a suspension plasma spray system, the Innovnano powder produces the preferred columnar coating structure enabling a porous, low thermal conductivity which translates to an increase in turbine blade protection, enhanced engine efficiency and, potentially, reduced emissions.
